Anime filler guide

Boruto filler list: what to skip in episodes 1–293

Episodes 1–293Reviewed

Finish Naruto Shippuden first, then watch Boruto: Naruto Next Generations from episode 1 to 293. The optional filler list below removes 28 episodes and keeps 265, including the long anime-canon arcs. The anime’s announced second part had no premiere date when this guide was reviewed, so the lookup ends at 293.

Coverage & selection notes

Uses absolute numbering from the 293-episode TV series that aired from 2017 to 2023, not streaming-service season numbers. Filler labels follow Anime Filler List, a community classification rather than an official canon ruling. Naruto, Shippuden, the films and any later Boruto anime are outside the episode lookup.

Which route should I choose?

For a first watch, start at episode 1 and use the lookup above only if you want a shorter run. It removes the 28 episodes the source labels filler and keeps everything else, including the anime-original arcs. A filler label describes where an episode’s material comes from; it is not a verdict on whether the episode is worth your time.

Boruto differs from most long anime in one way that matters here. By the source’s count, 179 of its 293 episodes are anime canon: original to the anime rather than adapted from the manga, but not filed as filler. Only 74 are straight manga adaptations. A rule that cuts everything not in the manga would remove most of the series, so read any Boruto skip count with that in mind.

What do the four episode labels mean?

These are the source’s editorial categories, not official grades of importance. The counts cover all 293 episodes. “Not in the manga” on its own is not enough for this guide to tell a first-time viewer to skip an episode.

What do the four episode labels mean?
LabelEpisodesHow this guide handles it
Manga canon74Keep. The source identifies these as adaptations of the manga.
Mixed canon/filler12Keep. Adapted material and additions share the episode.
Anime canon179Keep. The source separates these anime-original stories from its filler list.
Filler28Optional in the shorter route. Watch them if you want the complete anime.

Can I skip the anime-original arcs?

Not in this route. The longest anime-canon stretches are 70–92, 158–180, 221–255 and 257–281, with shorter runs including 2–15, 25–38, 98–105, 120–126, 128–137 and 141–147. The source does not put any of them on its filler list, so the lookup keeps them all.

If another site gives a much larger Boruto filler count, check whether it treats anime canon as filler. This guide uses the narrower label. Cutting the anime-original arcs is a choice about how much of the anime you want, not a correction to the episode order.

Rewatching, or already familiar with the manga? A manga-adaptation-only selection is a different list from the first-watch route above. Keeping only the episodes the source marks manga canon or mixed leaves 86: 1, 18–24, 39, 53–59, 61–66, 93–95, 106–111, 127, 148–151, 157, 181–189, 192–208, 210–220 and 282–293. It jumps between storylines without the anime’s connecting material, so we do not recommend it for a first watch.

Episodes to keep beside the skip ranges

Use these return points if you skip an entire range. Every range here ends right beside an episode the source marks mixed or anime canon, so do not round a range up to the next season break or the next arc.

The easiest one to miss is 152–157: only 152–154 and 156 are optional. Keep 155, which is anime canon, and 157, which is mixed. Also keep 18 after the 16–17 detour, and the mixed episodes 93–95 just before 96–97.

Do I need to finish Naruto Shippuden first?

For most viewers, yes. Boruto is the sequel to Naruto, set years later with the earlier generation grown up. It assumes you know who those characters are, and its opening episodes make clear where the earlier story left several of them. If you have not finished Shippuden, that gives away a good deal of how it ends.

Finish Shippuden at episode 500, then start Boruto at episode 1; our Naruto filler list covers both earlier series. The numbering restarts, so Boruto 1 is not Shippuden 501. Keep episode 1 itself: the source marks it mixed, not filler.

The TV series picks up earlier than the manga, with Boruto still at the Ninja Academy. Naruto’s films, including The Last, are outside this lookup.

Where does Boruto: Naruto the Movie fit?

The 2015 film came first. The manga opens by retelling it, while the TV series starts earlier and reaches the film’s central story in an arc that began airing in spring 2018. Anime Filler List marks most of that stretch, roughly episodes 53–66, as manga canon, with 59 mixed and 60 anime canon.

That means a series viewer does not need the film to follow the story. Our recommendation is to keep the TV episodes in order and, if you want the film, watch it after episode 66 as the earlier, theatrical version of the same central story. Watching it before episode 1 also works if you prefer release order; you will simply meet that story twice.

Do not swap the film in for episodes 53–66 in this route. The series continues from its own version, so the TV episodes stay in the lookup.

Is there a Boruto: Two Blue Vortex anime?

No continuation episodes had aired or been dated when we reviewed this guide on 21 October 2026. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the title of the manga’s second part, which began in August 2023. The TV anime closed its “Part I” with episode 293 in March 2023, and its official site said then that a Part II had been approved for production.

In January 2026, Screen Rant reported Studio Pierrot’s president as saying the continuation would come out in separate seasons, not as a year-round weekly run like the earlier Naruto anime. We found no announced premiere date, so this guide does not give one.

Until new episodes air, 1–293 is the whole Boruto TV anime. The lookup stops there: entering 294 returns no recommendation. A continuation will need its own classification check rather than an empty skip list that would look like a researched keep-everything answer.
