Season 7 recap Spoilers — open after watching
This recap reveals the events of season 7.
The Christopher experiment, run to completion - and the town gets its ending anyway.
The night at Christopher's becomes a relationship, then - in Paris, on impulse - a
marriage, and the season gives the experiment an honest run: he is charming, solvent,
devoted, and wrong. The wrongness surfaces in increments - a karaoke night where Lorelai
sings to the man she is not married to, a character reference for Luke's custody case
that reads as a love letter - and the marriage ends with less violence than either of
her engagements.
Luke spends the year fighting for April - a custody case he wins by finally saying out
loud what he wants - and circling back toward Lorelai at the speed the show has always
preferred. Richard's heart attack mid-lecture supplies the season's scare and its
thaw: hospital corridors do what Friday dinners never quite could.
Rory's senior year runs on two tracks: the paper, and Logan - who leaps from a cliff in
one episode, loses a fortune in another, and proposes at her graduation party in front
of everyone. Her no is the show's last big decision, and it is the right one for the
person she has spent seven seasons becoming.
It ends in the rain and then the sun: a job on a presidential campaign leaving in three
days, a farewell party the whole town builds overnight, Luke sewing the tent himself -
and a last scene at the counter, coffee poured, everything implied.
