Season 2 recap Spoilers — open after watching
This recap reveals the events of season 2.
An engagement quietly dies, and a nephew in a leather jacket rearranges everything.
The proposal stands through a bachelorette party and most of a summer, and then Lorelai
packs a bag and takes Rory to Harvard instead of getting married. The wedding is called
off in the way she prefers - by leaving - and Max is written out gently but completely.
The lesson lands late in the season when Christopher, Rory's father, arrives newly
solvent and almost ready, and the timing fails again: his girlfriend is pregnant, and
whatever door had opened closes.
The year's real arrival is Jess, Luke's nephew, shipped in from New York as a problem
and staying as one. He reads everything, respects nothing, and Rory likes him in a way
she declines to examine. A swan-boat accident, a bid war at a charity picnic, and a car
crash that fractures Rory's wrist - and briefly the whole town's judgment - keep the
triangle with Dean loaded all season without firing it.
Sookie and Jackson get engaged. Paris and Rory run the school paper into a functioning
partnership. Emily and Lorelai spend a spa weekend discovering they can share a room but
not a history.
It ends at Sookie's wedding, with Jess back in town unannounced and Rory kissing him
first - then leaving for Washington without deciding what it meant.
