This recap reveals the events of season 6.
The estrangement, the reunion, and a daughter Luke never knew he had.
Luke says yes. The engagement then spends the season in a drawer, because the two leads
are each managing a rupture: Lorelai and Rory do not speak for half a year, communicating
through lawyers' offices and Friday-night silences, until Jess - of all people - tells
Rory the truth about what she is doing with her life. She leaves the poolhouse, returns
to Yale, takes the paper's editorship, and shows up at her mother's door in the season's
most earned hug.
The wound that replaces it belongs to Luke. A twelve-year-old named April enters his
diner with a science-fair project and a paternity result, and Luke - honest to a fault
everywhere else - hides her from Lorelai for months. By the time the secret surfaces,
the wedding has been postponed past believing, and April's mother sets terms that keep
Lorelai at arm's length from half of Luke's life.
Elsewhere the town supplies its counterweights: Lane and Zach get from breakup to
proposal to a double wedding staged for two audiences; Paris runs the Yale Daily News
into a mutiny and out the other side; Logan graduates into a London office chosen by his
father.
It ends with an ultimatum on the street - now or never - and Luke asking for time.
