This recap reveals the events of season 3.
Twenty-five years later. The return is nothing like what anyone asked for, and better than what they wanted.
Cooper has been in the Lodge for twenty-five years. What came out in his place has been living, and killing, as him the whole time. The season runs on that split: a doppelganger with dead eyes working through old associates toward something buried, and the real Cooper extruded back into the world - wrongly, sideways - into the life of a Las Vegas insurance man named Dougie Jones, where he spends most of the season nearly mute, guided by coffee, slot machines and the kindness of people who decide his blankness is depth.
Around those two poles the story goes wider than the town ever allowed: a glass box in Manhattan, a bomb test in 1945 rendered as pure image, the origin of the thing called BOB and of something sent against it. Twin Peaks itself carries on - older deputies, the same diner, Laura's mother in a house that has never once healed.
The last movement gets Cooper back - fully, suddenly, the voice and the certainty intact - and then refuses the victory lap. He goes past the reunion, back, through, to undo the founding death itself, and the series ends on a road at night with a question shouted at a dark house and the lights going out. What year is this. No answer has ever been offered.
