Season 5 recap Spoilers — open after watching
This recap reveals the events of season 5.
The class of 2004 comes home, and Tony's cousin is the one release the year cannot survive.
A wave of men finish long sentences at once, and the neighbourhood absorbs them awkwardly - none more so than Tony Blundetto, Tony's cousin, who did seventeen years and genuinely intends to go straight. Massage therapy. A laundry job. The season watches the intention erode with real patience, until one freelance hit - taken for money, against orders - puts him on the wrong side of New York.
New York itself is splitting. Carmine dies, Johnny Sack and Little Carmine tug at the crown, and every move in Jersey now has a Manhattan echo. Tony and Carmela circle a reconciliation through lawyers, real estate and one dinner that goes better than either expects; the price of coming home has a spec house in it.
Adriana's two lives finally touch. The FBI asks her to wear a wire, her engagement buckles under the secret, and the drive she takes with Silvio - out of the city, into the trees - is the season's quietest, worst scene. Christopher chooses the family that will kill for him over the woman who would not quite.
It ends with Tony doing for New York what New York could not be allowed to do: his cousin, a shotgun, a porch. Johnny Sack is arrested in the snow, and Tony walks home through the backyards.
