Season 3 recap Spoilers — open after watching
This recap reveals the events of season 3.
One year to live, a demon war with no general, and a bill collected in full.
The devil's gate let out hundreds, and the season hunts through the consequences: a demon of gluttony working a diner town, seven deadly sins in a bar, and Ruby - a blonde with a knife that kills demons and a story about being on the brothers' side. Bela Talbot, thief and broker of the supernatural, complicates half the year on principle.
The clock is the season. Dean has months, then weeks, and his refusal to fight for himself - the belief, John-planted, that his life was always the currency - is the thing Sam spends the year arguing with. The contract's holder turns out to be Lilith, a white-eyed demon wearing little girls, and the search for her runs through every lead Ruby offers.
The strike-shortened year moves fast to its end: New Harmony, Indiana, Lilith in a child's body in a family home, the knife in reach and the plan almost working. Then midnight. The hounds come for Dean on schedule, and the show does not blink - he dies on the floor, torn, with Sam screaming and Lilith's power somehow breaking against him. The last shot is Dean in hell, strung and hooked, calling for his brother.
