Looking for Smallville’s Brainiac episodes? These 21 selected chapters follow the Milton Fine storyline, its aftermath and later returns, ending with Homecoming. Use them to revisit the thread in broadcast order.
A selected rewatch for people who already know Smallville, not every appearance or a first-watch shortcut. The list includes artifact and aftermath episodes as well as direct confrontations, so it is not a James Marsters guest-cast list. Other relationships, villains and parts of Chloe’s season-eight story fall between the selections.

When does James Marsters first appear as Brainiac?
His brief human-form debut is in Arrival, season 5 episode 1. Aqua, season 5 episode 4, introduces Milton Fine as Clark’s university professor. Those are different milestones, which is why this selection includes both.
Is this every Brainiac appearance?
No. These are selected story milestones and connecting episodes, not a complete appearance count. For example, Thirst (S05E05) also features Fine but is outside this selection. Counting the ship, artifacts, possession, disguises and brief mentions produces different lists from counting James Marsters’s appearances.
Why are there season-six episodes without Milton Fine?
Zod resolves the previous finale; Arrow and Fallout follow the artifact left behind. Their place in the guide is about the story’s consequences and surviving technology. They are not being presented as new James Marsters performances.
Should I rearrange the time-travel episodes?
Keep broadcast order. Apocalypse belongs at S07E18 and Homecoming at S10E04. Moving them earlier to match the periods visited would reveal developments before their intended place. First-time viewers should follow the surrounding seasons instead of using these jumps.

What is Fine trying to do in Solitude?Spoilers
Fine is a Kryptonian artificial intelligence working to release Zod. He uses Martha’s illness to draw Clark to the Fortress; Clark and Chloe stop that attempt. It is a turning point in the deception, not the end of Brainiac’s entire story.
What connects Arctic to Chloe’s later storyline?Spoilers
Brainiac is impersonating Kara in Arctic and attacks Chloe before Clark defeats his visible form. Brainiac’s presence in Chloe then becomes a continuing season-eight problem. Abyss makes the attack on her memories explicit; the season-seven confrontation is not a clean endpoint.
What happens to Brainiac in Legion?Spoilers
Clark and the Legion separate Brainiac from Chloe without killing her. The Legion takes his remains to the 31st century to reprogram him. This resolves the possession storyline and supplies the connection to the later Brainiac 5 visit.
How does Homecoming connect to the earlier Brainiac episodes?Spoilers
Homecoming features Brainiac 5, the reprogrammed version associated with the Legion, rather than another attempt at the old Zod scheme. He uses time travel to help Clark understand his past and future. The episode is the later coda to this television rewatch; this guide does not cover the Season Eleven comics.
